Overview

The evolving landscape of NIR light continues to provide new use cases, and therefore new measurement concerns. Main industries like consumer electronics, AR/VR, automotive, and even data communication have seen considerable shifts in the utilization of NIR in the past 4 to 5 years. With the continued rapid integration of NIR sources into new products, proper characterization during design and manufacturing has become even more important. For most of these industries, eye safety continues to be extremely important. To ensure the performance and eye safety of light beyond the human visible spectrum, manufacturers must properly measure the intensity of beams and patterns produced by NIR LEDs and lasers. However, traditional light source measurement methods cannot keep up with the high-volume production demands of devices like smartphones and extended reality (XR) headsets. The challenge calls for a measurement solution that is fast, easy to deploy, and practical for in-line testing.
