Overview

IEC 60079-0 Edition 8 was published in June 2026. As the foundation standard referenced by the Types of Protection in the IEC 60079 and ISO 80079 series, Edition 8 may have implications across a wide range of Ex equipment.

Much of IEC 60079-0 Edition 8 clarifies existing requirements and practices. However, a focused set of changes may require closer review by manufacturers.

The challenge is determining:

  • Which changes apply to your equipment?
  • Could existing certification files require updates?
  • Where might additional testing or documentation be required?

Understanding what has changed and what has not can help manufacturers determine the appropriate next steps for their products.

On November 17, CSA will be hosting for a 60-minute technical webinar examining the transition from Edition 7 to Edition 8.

During this 60-minute webinar, we will examine:

  • Technical changes: Key areas introduced or revised in Edition 8 that may require manufacturer attention
  • New and exiting products: Considerations for products being certified to Edition 8 and existing certified products
  • Testing and documentation: Where existing test results may remain applicable and where further review may be required

Key Takeaways

  • Discover the key technical changes requiring active manufacturer review
  • Learn what has stayed the same and where prior test results remain valid
  • Examine the two paths forward: new products certifying to Edition 8 and existing Edition 7 certificate updates
