Overview

Storage racks are an integral part of warehouse operations. Over the years, the design, installation, and maintenance of these structures have attracted the attention of local building departments and OSHA inspectors. This presentation will discuss the typical styles of industrial steel storage racks found in a warehouse environment, including automatic storage and retrieval systems, and many of the accessories that rack manufacturers provide to improve safety and operating efficiency. Attendees will review building requirements regarding seismic design, receive an overview of the International Building Code, and learn of resources available from the Rack Manufacturers Institute.

Arlin Keck, Corporate Engineer, Steel King Industries

Arlin Keck brings more than 30 years of experience in the storage rack and light-gauge steel framing industries to his role as corporate engineer with Steel King Industries. Keck has been involved with all aspects of the storage rack business, from design and product development to manufacturing and installation. He is a licensed professional engineer in 16 states and a professional member of both the ASCE and the AISC. Keck earned his Masters and Bachelor of Science degrees in engineering from Youngstown State University, OH.
