High Impact Strength Reinforced Polyester Engineering Resins for Automotive Applications
From Ticona Engineering Polymers

Engineering plastics have been used extensively in automobiles in a variety of applications such as grille opening retainers, bumpers and decorative panels. Recently, engineering plastics are also expanding into larger parts applications. This work describes the development of a new class of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) based engineering resins that possess high stiffness, toughness and impact resistance. The first product of this new class of Impet? thermoplastic polyesters is Impet Hi 430. The flow properties of this compound allow molding of large parts. The composition can be tuned to meet performance requirements by varying the reinforcement and impact modifier level. Structure-property relationships and the fracture mechanism will also be discussed.

Products & Services
Casting resins are pourable plastic or elastomer compounds used to cast parts, make molds or form a structure in place.
Specialty polymers and resins are proprietary polymers, resins, monomers and intermediates. This category includes plastics and elastomers that are based on proprietary curing technologies or chemistries, or that are designed for specialized applications.
Plastics and plastic materials are organic, synthetic or processed polymers that are supplied as raw materials or stock shapes. They typically consist of thermoplastic or thermosetting resins and can be made into many forms.
Phenolic, melamine and formaldehyde resins are thermosetting adhesives that offer strong bonds and good resistance to high temperatures.
Plastic sheet and plastic film is formed to a precise thickness and used in many different applications.
