Simulated Line Leakage Tests: Hocus-Pocus?

Line Leakage tests are commonly specified as a part of many product safety standards. This test is most often specified as engineering "type test" but may also be specified "routine production line test." The test is performed on electrical products while the Device Under Test (DUT) is operating either are its nominal line voltage or at 110% of its nominal specified input voltage. It is designed to measure the leakage current that could flow through the human body under both normal and single fault conditions. Fault conditions can occur during everyday use when the ground or neutral circuits are interrupted or the polarity of the input to the DUT is reversed or any combination of the above. The product safety standards specify Measuring Devices (MD) which simulate the impedance of the human body; the MD provides a load on the circuit under test to simulate human contact with the circuit.
