Know the requirements that must be met during the inspection of any type of equipment for the application of phytosanitary products, used in agriculture.

The new parts of the UNE-EN ISO 16122 standard on sprayer inspections are now available, whose main objectives are:

- Reduce the potential risk of environmental contamination by plant protection products.

- Control pests through the minimum possible application of phytosanitary products.

Here's a brief summary of Part 1:

- UNE-EN ISO 16122-1:2026. Agricultural and forestry machinery. Inspection of sprayers in use. Part 1: General.

It defines the general requirements that must be met during the inspection of any type of equipment for the application of plant protection products used in agriculture, horticulture, forestry and in other areas, except knapsack sprayers.

The requirements mainly relate to the condition of the sprayer in the face of potential risks to the environment and its operation to achieve a good application.

The standard also includes the minimum requirements for the preparation of the sprayer to be inspected and the minimum safety requirements applicable to the inspector (test operator) during the inspection.

Annex ZA (Informational) develops the relationship between this European standard and the essential health, safety and environmental requirements of Directive 2009/128/EC.

In addition, this series of new standards is completed by: UNE-EN ISO 16122-2:2026, UNE-EN ISO 16122-3:2026 and UNE-EN ISO 16122-4:2026 on horizontal bar sprayers, sprayers for shrub and tree crops and, finally, fixed and semi-mobile sprayers, respectively.
