East Greenbush, NY (June 16, 2011) – The May 11, 2011 GlobalSpec "Medical Equipment Design" online event drew more than 1,100 participants. Attendees averaged more than an hour at the virtual conference learning about the latest trends, technologies and innovations across key areas of medical equipment, such as advances in functional imaging technology, techniques for advanced medical diagnosis, medical products with consumer appeal, and two-shot silicone molding.

Medical kiosks and telemonitoring solutions will enable patients and physicians to run routine health screenings at home or remotely.
  • Non-DEHP Materials for use in Medical Applications: Mark Colton, Product Development Manager, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics – For users of DEHP-based materials that are concerned about how new regulations may affect their products, this presentation helped attendees understand why the regulations are being put in place, what alternatives are available, and how they compare.
  • Audible Alarms in Medical Equipment - Deconstructing IEC 60601-1-8: Dan O'Brien, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mallory Sonalert Products, Inc. – Designing audible alarms into medical equipment used to be simple, but with the publication of international standard IEC60601-1-8, this is no longer true. This presentation helped engineers and system designers understand how IEC60601-1-8 impacts the design process.
  • Networking Lounge Chat: "Fluidic Solutions for Medical OEMs" – Hosted by Richard Whipple, Parker Precision Fluidics Division
