E6010-E8010 Theory Question
… the lowest yield strength filler that is adequate for the load to decrease weld metal cracks, HAZ … That may explain the root pass with 6010, but doen't help with the 8010 passes. 8010 rods are low-alloy, high strength steel, all position, general duty.

I always run the 6010 down hand...even when welding fittings on the roller stands... I hold the rod at 1-2 o'clock (on pipe) and roll the pipe. 6010...7010...and 8010 and 9010...they all burn about the same...lotsa penetration from these rods …
