Powder Coating Services Information

Powder coatingPowder coating services provide a surface finishing process where granules of polymer are applied to a metallic surface and then cured.  Applications for powder coating services spread across many different industries, including agriculture, architecture, general manufacturing, transportation, and utilities.

Process

The powder coating process results in a rugged, comprehensive plastic 'skin' around the substrate. Powders do not require a solvent for particle suspension; rather, items to be coated are often electrically charged or grounded, and the powder receives an opposite charge. When the powder is sprayed toward the component, the powder settles in an even, thorough coating. The component is then baked in order for the polymer, epoxy, or vinyl powder to meld. Powder coatings are a nonconductive, high-endurance, flexible type of alternative surface coating that is utilized for both aesthetic and functional purposes.

Capabilities

Frequently, the coating powder is sprayed onto the component, but it also may be dipped or rolled on as well. The businesses themselves often complete powder coating work on a contract or retainer basis. This work cannot be completed on-site, so components must be transported to the powder coating facility. Services may offer additional capabilities, such as high-volume production, prototyping, design recommendations, and assembly services.
