TruCluster Server Handbook

Part V: Creating a Cluster

Chapter 10: Creating a Single-Node Cluster

Overview

" A mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions."

-- Oliver Wendell Holmes

In Chapter 4, we discussed Cluster Configuration Planning. This included the configuration planning for Tru64 UNIX to support TruCluster Server and the configuration planning for TruCluster Server. In Chapter 5, we discussed the actual installation of Tru64 UNIX, again in support of the installation of TruCluster Server. In Chapters 6 through 9, we discussed what makes it easier to implement a cluster in Tru64 UNIX the "Cluster Hooks." Now, finally, in this chapter we will discuss the installation and configuration of TruCluster Server and the creation of a single-node cluster.

In this chapter, careful planning and preparation come together to help us create something quite tangible and quite remarkable a highly available, highly scalable UNIX cluster. We will therefore assume that you have done all your planning and preparation for installing and configuring TruCluster Server and for the creation of your UNIX cluster.

10.1 Before the Cluster Installation

If you've already skipped ahead to this chapter without reading Chapters 3, 4, and 5, we recommend that you stop and carefully review these three chapters at a minimum before continuing. Generally speaking, planning is essential to success.

For the best understanding of what it takes to design and plan a cluster, we suggest that you review Chapters 2 through 9, in addition to using...
