4.6 SCANNER-LENS RELATIONSHIPS

This topic concentrates on those techniques that render large defletion angles to the beam. Thus it involves primarily the rotational scanners, typically the polygon and holographic devices and the vibrational scanners of the galvanometer and resonant types that deflect significant beam angles. A 'significant' scan angle into a lens is here considered that which requires serious attention to alleviate off-axis lens aberrations and distortions, often with the use of compound optics. A typical lens configuration dealing with this situation appears in Figure 3.6.
