The Information Systems Security Officer's Guide: Establishing and Managing an Information Protection Program, Second Edition

Section I (Chapters 1 4) provides an introduction into the ever-changing world in which today's information systems security officer (ISSO) must work. This section begins with an overview of the past and present world of nation-states, societies, high technology, criminal justice systems, the global marketplace, and the modern business and management environment.
The first section of this book then discusses some of today's threats to information and information systems. This section then culminates in the presentation of the establishment of a fictitious global corporation, the International Widget Corporation (IWC). IWC will be used as the employer of an ISSO who must establish and manage a successful and cost-effective information and information systems assets protections program, as well as manage an InfoSec organization.
The world is not merely the world. It is our world. It is not merely an industrial world. It is, above all things, a human world. Agnes E. Meyer [1]
The objective of this chapter, "Understanding the Information World Environment," is to provide a general overview of the changing information-dominated and information-dependent global environment in which the information systems security officer (ISSO) must work.
