OVERVIEW

An ADAMS multi-body dynamic model of the spiral elevator has been developed including elastic mounted working member and two unbalanced masses. In order to perform the simulation the unbalanced masses have been an applied rotational motion. The time history plots for vertical and angular displacement of the system, obtained as a result of simulation are very similar to the plots obtained by experimental means. The values obtained for the amplitude of steady-state oscillations of the system are very close to those obtained by analytical and by experimental means. The magnitude of system oscillations during the starting period has been determined, being of major interest as they may endanger the supporting springs.

Key words: spiral elevators, dynamic analysis.

1 INTRODUCTION

The vibrating spiral elevators are designed for upward conveyance of bulk materials along a helical path also used for process applications such as cooling, heating and drying. They consist of an upright tube around which winds a helical conveying-path. Vibrations of working member are usually excited by two unbalanced vibrators which are mounted in diametrical positions and at a certain angle either at the bottom or at the top of the tube. Due to the vibration induced to the working member solid particles are transported upward along the helical conveying trough.

The motion of the conveying trough of the spiral elevator is the response to the excitation consisting of an alternating driving force and an alternating driving moment applied to the working...
