World Class Sales & Operations Planning: A Guide to Successful Implementation and Robust Execution

BUILDING THE RIGHT BUSINESS PLAN

The Balanced Scorecard is one of the best and yet simple approaches to business planning that I have found and used. In their book, Kaplan and Norton suggest that managers look for opportunity and scrutinize four general focus areas: [1]

  1. Financial

  2. Internal Business Process

  3. Learning and Growth

  4. Customer

I like to add Supply Chain Management and Technology to the list, so now the modified list is as follows:

  1. Financial

  2. Internal Business Process

  3. Learning and Growth

  4. Customer

  5. Supply Chain Management

  6. Technology

If you take Kaplan and Norton s advice and also apply high-performance ERP management systems to this strategy development process, you will most certainly have a successful business planning model for your business.
