Liquid Crystals, Laptops and Life

12.10: Further Reading and References

12.10 Further Reading and References

This chapter has been far too brief for more than an introduction to the terminology and a few examples. This material is covered in many texts. I am particularly indebted to Biochemistry , by Lubert Stryer, W.H.Freeman and Company, NY, 1988. A 1999 edition is available. The first chapter of Cellular Biophysics , by Thomas Fischer Weiss, MIT Press 1996, is a brief yet outstanding higher level discussion of the material presented here. Most organic chemistry books also discuss this material. Because of a historical accident, I am most familiar with Organic Chemistry by Morrison and Boyd, but other texts are similar. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology , by W.H.Elliot and D.C.Elliot, Oxford University Press, 1997 is very readable, and was a constant companion during writing. The figures in this book are very well done. G.A.Jeffrey s book, An Introduction to Hydrogen Bonding , Oxford University Press, 1997 is very detailed and not for the novice. Nevertheless, the author found parts very useful while writing this chapter. Readers who are particularly interested in this area will find it very useful.
