Glossary

A

A axis
The axis of rotary motion of a machine tool member or slide about the X axis.
absolute dimension
A dimension expressed with respect to the initial zero point of a coordinate axis.
absolute programming
A mode of CNC programming in which all axis movements are made in relation to a fixed datum point.
  • The preparatory function G90 must be included in the CNC part program for absolute programming, Fig. G1.

absolute readout
A display of the true slide position as derived from the position commands within the control system.
absolute system
A CNC system in which all positional dimensions, both input and feedback, are measured from a fixed point of origin.
acceleration and deceleration (ACCENDEC)
- Acceleration and deceleration in feed rate, providing smooth starts and stops when a machine is operating under CNC and changes from one feed rate value to another.
access time
The time interval between the instant at which information is: 1. Called for from storage and the instant at which delivery is completed, i.e., the read time. 2. Ready for storage and the instant at which storage is completed, i.e., the write time.
accuracy
  1. Measured by the difference between the actual position of the machine slide and the position demanded.

  2. Conformity of an indicated value to a true value, i.e., an actual or an accepted standard value. The accuracy of a control system is expressed as the deviation or difference between the ultimately controlled...
