Cold Air Distribution: System Design Guide

Chapter 4: Selection of Cold-Air Distribution Components

Overview

This chapter presents information and guidelines for sizing and selecting the components used in cold-air distribution systems. This chapter considers the cooling plant, fan, cooling coil, and ductwork. Terminal units, VAV boxes, and diffusers are covered in chapter 5.

The selection of components for a cold-air distribution system is governed primarily by the desired supply air temperature. In turn, the optimum supply air temperature depends on the cost, performance, and energy efficiency of the available equipment.
