TABLE OF CONTENTS Leonardo DaVinci is credited with the design and installation of the first indoor plumbing system in Italy in the mid-sixteenth century. Other than the addition of sophisticated pumps on the supply side and designer fixtures on the other end, not much has changed, except for the materials of construction (gravity still plays as important role today as it did in 1550). A building plumbing system will generally consist of incoming domestic water service and distribution, above- and below-grade drainage systems for both sanitary and storm water, a venting system, pipe, fittings, valves, pumps, and fixtures.
