About the Authors
Hans Labohm
Hans H.J. Labohm was born in 1941. He studied Economics and Economic History at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After military service, he joined the Ministry of Defence and was posted at the Netherlands Permanent Representation to NATO, Brussels. In 1971, he entered the Netherlands Diplomatic Service and was posted at the Netherlands Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1974, he returned to the Netherlands, where he held various functions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. From 1978, he was Deputy Head of the Policy Planning Staff, being responsible for, among other things, long- term in-depth analysis and speech-writing. From 1987 1992 he was Deputy Permanent Representative of The Netherlands to the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), and Standing Member of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD in Paris, France. In September 1992, he became Senior Visiting Research Fellow and Advisor to the Board at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, Clingendael, The Hague, which is not only a think tank but also a diplomatic academy. At Clingendael Labohm teaches international economics. Moreover, he is guest teacher at the Netherlands Defence College and he frequently lectures for (foreign) students at universities and other educational institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.
