Mounting and Features
Back to Top
Mounting | Manufacturers use many of these terms interchangeably. Keeping this in mind, we have delineated the options as follows to help you locate the ideal item(s) for your needs.
Your choices are... | |||
Adhesive / Magnetic Base | The device has a self-adhesive or magnetic base. It is designed to be glued / adhered to surface.
Chassis / Rack / DIN Rail | Chassis mount devices can be attached to, or within, the supporting frame of a structure (chassis), exclusive of the body or housing. Some chassis varieties can be mounted within a rack. Rack mount units can be mounted directly into a rack. They come equipped with the necessary rail guides, flanges, or tabs to be mounted in this fashion. The standard 19" rack is typical of this style. DIN rail devices can be mounted on a standard DIN rail.
Flange Mount | The device is equipped with integral flanges so that it can be mounted with the use of external hardware (screws, bolts, rails, etc.).
Stand Alone / Freestanding | Stand alone devices do not need to be mounted; they can stand on its own.
Handheld / Portable | Handheld or portable devices are designed to be moved freely; they are not meant to be bolted or hardwired in place. This style can include items with wheels, briefcase, laptop style, or handheld products.
Flush Mount | The device can be placed into, or through, a depression within an existing panel so that it's face is flush, or nearly flush, with the panel, wall, or ceiling. The method of attachment may include screws, bolts, rails, flanges, etc.
Pole Mount | The alarm is supplied with brackets for installation on a vertical pole.
Other | Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary configuration.

Features | |||
Your choices are... | |||
Acknowledge / Silence | The "acknowledge" feature allows the operator to mute the audible alarm while maintaining some visual alarm indication.
Battery Back-up | The unit has back-up batteries in case of power failure.
Explosion Proof | Explosion-proof devices have totally enclosed housings that are constructed to withstand internal explosion of a specified gas, vapor or dust. If an explosion occured, the enclosure would prevent the ignition or explosion of the gas or vapor surrounding the motor enclosure. Underwriters Laboratories (UL) governs several explosion-proof ratings.
Intrinsically Safe | Intrinsically safe (IS) is an adjective for equipment and wiring that is incapable of releasing sufficient electrical or thermal energy under normal or abnormal conditions to cause ignition of a specific hazardous atmospheric mixture in its most ignited concentration. The IS terminations and wiring may be brought into any hazardous location of any group classification for which it is accepted without requiring explosion proof housing or other means of protection.
Outdoor Rated / Weatherproof | The device is designed to function normally in an outdoor environment. It is, to varying degrees, sunlight, water, temperature, frost and ice, etc., resistant.
Selectable Candela | The unit allows users to choose between several pre-specified levels of candela, or light intensity.
Submersible | Submersible devices are designed to function optimally while underwater.
Synchronization | The alarm, annunciator, provides built-in synchronization of audible signals or strobes. NFPA 72 requires visual appliances to flash in synchronization in rooms or areas where there are two or more visual devices that are not a minimum of 55 feet apart. NFPA 72 requires that fire alarm signals be distinctive in sound from other signals and used for that purpose only. This is known as the three-pulse temporal pattern.
