Stiffeners are materials added to a flex circuit to rigidize areas. Rigidizing is recommended under SMT components, but not required. Other areas to consider rigidizing include:

• Hole patterns stiffener image
• Forcing bends
• Increasing overall thickness
• Protecting solder joints
