About

3M Advanced Materials Division

Enhancing Performance and Value

3M Advanced Materials Division is a developer, manufacturer, and supplier of products designed to help their customers improve productivity; enhance product quality; protect health and safety; and control costs. Their products are “ingredients” used by their customers in manufacturing their own high performance products, which requires close, long-term cooperative relationships between customer and supplier. It’s how they’ve done business for over 60 years.

3M™ Ceramic Microspheres
High-strength, inert, intrinsically-hard, fine particles used as an additive in a variety of paint and coating formulations to increase hardness, provide gloss control, reduce VOC’s, increase filler loadings, and enhance burnish, scrub and abrasion resistance.

3M™ Cosmetic Microspheres
Semi-transparent, fine particle size, white ceramic microspheres used in various cosmetic formulations including face powders, eye shadows, lipsticks and more, to add a silky-soft, luxurious feel at a lower cost-in-use than many conventional premium fillers such as boron nitride, PMMA, and nylon additives.

3M™ Dynamar™ Specialty Additives
Dynamar PPAs (Polymer Processing Additives) used at very low levels (200-1000 ppm) are designed to improve the extrusion processing of polyolefins and other polymers.

3M™ Dyneon™ Custom Compounds
Whether an application demands enhanced wear resistance, lower deformation under load or extended product life, Dyneon can formulate the appropriate compound in a standard, free-flowing, or pre-sintered grade.

3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomers
Broad range of high performance fluorocarbon elastomers are engineered to meet demanding sealing applications by providing long-term protection against high temperatures and corrosive chemicals.

3M™ Dyneon™ Fluorothermoplastics
Innovative materials for applications in industries including food packaging, chemical processing and semiconductor manufacturing.

3M™ Easy Clean Coatings
Factory-applied clear treatments designed to make ceramic sanitary ware, shower glass and glazed wall tile easier to clean.

3M™ Glass Bubbles
Hollow glass microspheres are available in a broad range of sizes, densities and crush strengths to help improve a variety of manufacturing challenges. For example, high-strength glass bubbles can be used to replace conventional fillers such as talc in engineered thermoplastics to reduce weight while improving dimensional stability. 3M glass bubbles are also used in high performance paints, coatings, construction materials and adhesives to lower resin demand, improve sandability and more.

3M™ Nextel™ Ceramic Textiles
Ceramic fiber technology developed for high temperature operating environments up to 2500° F (1371° C), where the primary purpose is to insulate or to act as a flame barrier. Available as fabrics, tapes and sleevings, Nextel ceramic textiles can be sewn and converted into a wide range of heat and flame shields such as furnace curtains, tube seals, door gaskets, and more.

3M™ Novec™ Fluorosurfactants
Advanced wetting & leveling agents, used to improve performance in a broad range of aqueous, solvent-borne and UV curable paints and coatings.

3M™ Performance Coatings
Two-component liquid polyurea formulations that dry to a tough pliable foam skin that helps provide thermal insulation, flame retardancy, and corrosion protection.

3M™ Protective Material
Water miscible fluoropolymer dispersion designed to provide water, oil and stain repellency to porous hard surfaces where mechanical stresses exist.

3M™ Stain Resistant Additives
Aqueous fluorinated polyurethane dispersion (PUD) that when formulated as a penetrating sealer, adds stain resistance and release, water and oil repellency characteristics to porous surfaces such as concrete, grout, unglazed tile, granite, clay, slate, limestone and terracotta.

3M™ Structural Fibers
Innovative ceramic fibers that are incorporated into metal, ceramic, or polymer matrix composites to create high strength, heat-resistant materials for a various load-bearing applications such as aerospace parts, architectural members, consumer electronics, and more. Allows for thinner applications without sacrificing the stiffness of conventional products.
