About
The ATR program, which was developed by the equally owned joint venture set up in the early 1980s between the then Aérospatiale of France, now Airbus Group, and the then Aeritalia, now Alenia Aermacchi, is currently the world leader in regional turboprop aircraft.
ATR, is based in Toulouse (South of France) and sells two aircraft, the 50-seat ATR 42 and the 70-seat ATR 72, which share the same type of wing, fuselage cross-section, basic systems and cockpit, and represent a safe and affordable transport solution for regional routes thanks to excellent operating standards and high-comfort cabins.
Currently the ATRs fly with over 186 airlines in more than 90 countries. The two variants totalled sales of over 1,400 aircraft: this is a commercial success which demonstrates the effectiveness of the basic design and its ability to support the continuing system and technology updates required in past years to meet increasingly stringent operator requirements in terms of operating performance, efficiency and affordability.
