While shopping at a major retailer in 1998, Arun Patel noticed an ignition key left in a parked forklift that any shopper could access. Curious, Arun did some research and learned that many accidents resulted from unauthorized use of store forklifts. In 2000, he launched AutoLock — a simple keyless entry system — and Access was born.
A web-based first.
More research revealed that forklift safety, OSHA compliance requirements and utilization required a more advanced solution. Arun, now working with large retailers, realized that companies with multiple locations used client/server technology software, which tied up their IT resources. A year later, Access launched its wireless fleet management system Vigilant with a web-based application to monitor forklifts – a first in the industry.
