Metal bar grating has many applications but is primarily used as an industrial product because of its high strength, relative light weight, and design that allows for light flow and ventilation.
IKG's Rich History Spans Over 100 Years
IKG is known as the father of the world grating industry, having invented the first grating products in the early 20th century to enable construction of the New York City subway system. IKG evolved through the merger of the Irving Subway Grating Company, Kerrigan Iron Works Company, Gary Grating Company and Borden Metal Products. Over the past 100 years, IKG and its predecessor companies pioneered a series of "firsts" in the grating industry.
IKG Continues to Pioneer New Grating Products
IKG has continued this pioneering tradition through ongoing research and development of new and improved grating products to serve an increasingly diverse customer base.
- IKG's Mebac® Safety Products provide the most durable slip-resistant surface available today through a patented process for bonding aluminum oxide grit to a steel or aluminum base. IKG also developed Aluminum EZWeld® and Mebac® Z-Treads.
- Safe-T-Grid® is another IKG innovation that uses a unique, wide T-Bar walking surface, ideally suited for entrance mats, pedestrian walkways and other applications.
- IKG introduced Aluminum Flush Top Swaged Grating, combining the safety of a flush top walking surface with the economy of swaged construction, especially suited to water and wastewater treatment plants and similar operations.
- IKG is the only company in North America to offer GrateCoat® powder coat as the standard finish on Mezzanine Products.
