Tortra™ is a division of Bridgeport Magnetics Group, Inc. a privately held corporation located in Shelton, CT. The company was founded by Ulrik Poulsen in 1986, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to design and manufacture toroidal isolation and power transformers and toroidal inductors.

In 2008 a 40,000 square foot factory in Shelton was acquired and Tortran and its sister company Alpha-Core Inc. became divisions of the newly formed Bridgeport Magnetics Group Inc.

Using proprietary design software, computerized winding equipment and cores wound by our sister company Alpha-Core, Tortranâ??s quick turn-around time and competitive pricing helped to build a loyal roster of happy customers from the very beginning.

For large volume production orders, close partnerships in Asia were established already in the very early part of the new century. With lower production costs, the toroidal transformer continues to replace the conventional E/I transformer also for high volume applications as the cost difference is now insignificant in view of the many advantages of the toroidal design.
