Brushless Pancake Motors
We are considered a world leader in the design and manufacture of compact brushless DC electric motors for the industrial, aerospace & defence, medical, marine and other specialist markets. Our experience spans from flat motors for operating door systems to in-wheel motors for industrial robots. Printed Motor Works offer two distinct brushless pancake DC motor families: the XR Series using an external rotor and the IR Series using an internal rotor. All our compact brushless DC motors can be tailored to meet your exact specification.

Brushed Pancake Motors
Founded in 1963, we are Europeâ??s largest manufacturer of flat brushed DC pancake electric motors and motor gearboxes. As the worldâ??s leading authority on the design and manufacture of pancake motors, we continue to explore new areas of application for this unique motor design. Pancake motors or printed armature motors and servodisc motors as they are also known, are employed for various industrial applications wherever rapid stop-start, zero cogging, low inductance, precise electronic motor control, a low thermal time constant or just a slim, axially flat packaging profile is needed. Printed Motor Worksâ?? flat armature motors differ from conventional DC servomotors in their unique slotless disc armature design. This enables them to deliver a concentrated level of performance in both incremental motion and continuous speed that is not attainable with conventional iron-core motor designs.

In-Wheel Motors
We are a world leader in this nascent technology with a strong focus on extremely demanding high torque low speed applications. Our modular motor system allows us to rapidly design and produce custom wheel motors for high-end commercial, marine and aerospace & defence applications. Printed Motor Works pioneered the development of the in-wheel electric motor and have delivered many samples and prototypes to a wide variety of customers in the marine, aerospace & defence, heavy industrial and commercial automotive markets. Printed Motor Works have a wide range of hub motors available for highly specialised applications. The in-wheel XR series (XR stands for eXternal Rotor) offers a glimpse into the future of powered wheel technology. We are happy to work with customers to develop, manufacture and supply wheel motors for these specialist applications.

Printed Motor Works is recognised as a world authority in the design and manufacture of compact high-power permanent magnet brushless DC electric motors. We offer many sizes of brushless permanent magnet and brushed pancake DC motors that can be rapidly tailored to meet your exact specification. If you need a custom housing, very long life or just more performance than the markets standard offers, we can help. Printed Motor Works are able to assist with custom BLDC motors for volume production as well as low volume specialist projects. Typical custom projects range from a few weeks for simple adaptations to 16 weeks for a totally bespoke solution.
