   Balancing / Dynamic Balancing Weight       Balancing or dynamic balancing weights are used to help balance rotating components or machinery. If not balanced properly, rotating components exhibit unbalanced centrifugal forces. In turn, this causes noise, wear, vibration, and premature component failure. There are many different types of balancing weights. Products include balancing correction weight kits, balancing clips, balancing c-clamps, balancing machine drive belts, and lead weights for balancing sheaves. Balancing weight suppliers can assist both commercial and industrial customers with selection and sizing. As a rule, the faster a component rotates, the more critical balancing weights become. Balancing clips vary by type and application. For example, squirrel cage balancing clips are slightly-curved balancing weights that are designed for balancing fans with curved blades. Backward-incline balancing clips are flat pieces of metal that are used to balance flat-bladed fans. They are usually made of spring steel or stainless steel. Steel balancing c-clamps are suitable for both squirrel cage fans and vane axial flow fans. They have a serrated surface that functions as a second set screw. Heavy-duty balancing c-clamps are balancing weights that are designed for outdoor environments where fan blades may rust or corrode. Balancing weights include air foil clips, devices which are designed for blowers. Throat size is the most important specification to consider. Typically, suppliers of air foil clips designate their products as narrow throat, wide throat, and extra-wide throat. Air foil clips may also be coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to provide chemical resistance. Other types of balancing weights include balancing machine drive belts, products which improve belt performance and reduce noise levels; and adhesive-backed lead weights for balancing sheaves, products which may be used to improve the performance of fan blades. Balancing correction weight kits may consist of many different types of products. For example, a balancing weight starter kit may include squirrel cage clips, steel c-clamps, airfoil clamps in both standard and extra-wide sizes, lead weights, and an adjustable carrying case. Balancing weights that come in kit form may also include products such as backward incline clips or squirrel cage clips. Replacement packages and specialized or custom balancing weights are also commonly available. Accessories may include wrenches and markers for indicating magnet locations. 
   Calibration Weight / Mass Standard       Calibration weights, mass standards, reference weights, or laboratory weights have a certified mass or weight, which is traceable to national or international laboratory standards such as NIST, ANSI/ASTM, or OIML ISO. A standard mass or precision weight can be used to calibrate scales, balances, weigh cells, and other masses or weights 
   Counterweight / Counterbalance Weight       Counterweights are used to counterbalance an opposing mass in a linear or rotary motion system, allowing movement with lower driving forces. 
   Test / Load Test Weight       Test weights or load test weights are used to apply or generate a load for proof testing materials or products, mechanical testing, materials testing, elevator testing, crane testing, cable testing, and laboratory experiments. Test weights are also used for pressure generation on deadweight testers, which are a type of pressure calibrator.

Block weights often have a grip handle and are also called grip handle weights. Hock-style block calibration weights have a hook and are hung from a weight cart. Very heavy block weights are sometimes stackable. A weight cart or lift may be required to move very heavy block weights. 
   Clamp-on / Split Weight       Weights in the form of a clamp-on or split construction. Clamp-on or split construction weights are design for use as ballast weights, sinking weights, pipeline weights, fishing line weights and cable weights. 
   Clip-on Weight       Clip-on weights are commonly used as balance or dynamic balancing weights on wheels or rotating spindles. The weights clip-on to the wheel or rim. 
   Cylinder Weight       Weights in the form of a cylinder. Cylindrical shaped weights are often used as scale calibration weights. 
   Fasten / Bolt-on Weight       Weight designed to bolt-on or fasten onto a ship, spindle, pipeline, or other component. Bolt-on weights are typically used as ballasts, balancing weights, counterweights, load test weights and as other specialized weights. 
   Hook Weight       Weights with an integral hook for hanging from a scale or weight cart. Hook style weight can vary from small weights for use as counterweights on mechanical scales to heavy weights used on a weight cart for elevator testing or load testing. 
   Ingot Weight       Weights in the form of ingots. Ingot shaped weights are typically used as ballast weights. 
   Plate Weight       Weights in the form of metal plates. Plate-shaped weights are typically used as ballast, counter, test or balancing weights. 
   Ring Weight       Weights in the forms of ring, toroid or doughnut. Ring-shaped weights are typically used as inertial, test, counter or balancing weights. 
   Set-on Weight       Set-on weights are placed on top of a pipeline or equipment and use gravity to hold the weight in place. Pipeline bag weights are often set-on weights, but some bag weights are strapped or tied on. 
   Shot / Pellet Weight       Weights in the form of shot or pellets. Shot or pellet-shaped weights are typically used as ballast, counter or balancing weights. They are also used for adjusting or correcting a reference weight by addition of shot to a cavity in the reference weight. 
   Slotted Weight       Slotted weights have a disc shape with a slot from the center of to the outer diameter of the disc. Slotted weights are often used as test or load weights on mechanical testing equipment, hardness tester, creep or stress rupture testers, and other material testers. The slots allow weights to be added onto a rod shape hanger. Load or force application can be increased or decreased by adding or removing weights. 
   Stackable Weight       Stackable weights are typically heavy weights constructed with stackable mating features. When a stackable weight is stacked on top of another stackable weight, legs on the top weight fit into indentation on the lower weight, which prevent the heavy weight from sliding or slipping off.
