Straightening Titanium Alloy Parts

Limitations

For completeness, I will mention that there is some specialized stress relief straightening in gas and electric furnaces with parts placed in a retort. A retort is a metal box, usually stainless steel, which encloses the part and allows circulation of an inert gas while the retort, with part, is in a furnace. A retort is used to minimize the formation of alpha-case. This process is little used, is costly, is limited in its use, and will not be covered in this writing.
