Traditional air handling units (AHUs) control air temperature, humidity and particle count (filtering) from a centralized location within a cleanroom space. FFUs, on the other hand, are mounted within the ceiling grid at strategic locations throughout the cleanroom, thereby providing distributed control of air flow and filtering. This enables FFUs to offer several distinct advantages over traditional AHUs, such as more effective airflow optimization, higher efficiency, greater uniformity, higher reliability, lower noise and lower operational costs.

It has an electronically controlled DC motor with a backward curved blower to enhance efficiency and reduce energy consumption and operating costs.
