This chapter includes an overview of Companies Act 1985 disclosure requirements, as well as classification and analysis of liabilities set out in FRS 4. Specific issues relating to FRS 4 are included in Chapter 17, together with international accounting developments regarding financial instruments.
The balance sheet formats and disclosure requirements were referred to in Chapter 4 and may be summarized as follows:
For each item shown under creditors, disclose:
aggregate amounts of debts repayable (other than by instalments) more than five years after B/S date;
aggregate amount of debts repayable by instalments any of which fall due more than five years after the B/S date;
for each item in (ii), the aggregate amount of instalments falling due after the five years.
For each debt required to be disclosed within (1)(ii) above, disclose:
terms of payment or repayment and rate of interest payable; or
if above statement would be of excessive length, a general indication of the terms of payment or repayment and rates of interest payable.
For each item under creditors, supply:
aggregate amount of any debts in respect of which security has been given;
indication of nature of securities given.
Issues of debentures during the year disclose:
reason for making issue;
classes of debentures issued;
for each class, amount issued and consideration received by company.
Particulars of redeemed debentures which company has power to reissue.
