Introduction

Cisco Secure Scanner is a vulnerability scanner that maps network devices, identifies device operating systems and versions, open ports and applications listening on them, and vulnerabilities associated with those applications.

Some of the key features of Cisco Secure Scanner include the following:

• It can actively probe the open ports and attempt to confirm vulnerabilities in order to reduce false positives.

• Once you have mapped and scanned your network, the unique Grid Browser enables you to view the results of your scan from many different perspectives and at varying levels of detail. This not only provides you with the capability to identify and drill into the data that you need to implement corrective actions, but also provides you with the flexibility to generate management charts and reports that will communicate the necessary information focus management attention and resources where it is needed.

• Unlike other vulnerability scanners, since Cisco Secure Scanner is licensed without any ties or restrictions based on IP address, there is no requirement to modify your license as your network changes. Nor is its license based on platform types to be scanned; all network devices are mapped and scanned, including UNIX servers, Windows servers, firewalls, routers, switches, and printers.
