Chapter 2: Installation

This chapter gives a detailed description of how to install MICO on your system. There are basically three possibilities: you can run MICO directly from the CD (described in Section 2.2), you can install precompiled MICO binaries on your hard disk (described in Section 2.3), or you can compile MICO yourself (described in Section 2.4 for Unix and Section 2.5 for Windows). Read this chapter carefully before trying to install MICO.

2.1 Prerequisites

Before you try anything with MICO, you should make sure that your system provides the prerequisites listed in this section. There are three different kinds of prerequisites, depending on what you want to do:

  1. Compiling MICO applications. This is mandatory for all users of MICO. If your system does not meet these minimal prerequisites, you will not be able to do anything with MICO at all. See Section 2.1.1 for details.
  2. Compiling MICO. If the binaries contained on the CD do not match with your system, you may need to compile and install MICO from the source distribution. Before you try to compile the MICO sources, you should make sure that the tools listed in Section 2.1.2 are properly installed on your system.
  3. Compiling the Interface Repository (IR) browser. The IR browser is not required if you want to compile MICO applications.
