Physical Security for IT

9.3: Action Steps to Improve Physical IT Security

9.3 Action Steps to Improve Physical IT Security

The material in this chapter shows activities of DHS and the ISACs that may affect the physical IT security efforts of your organization at some time in the future. As steps are taken to improve physical security of IT assets, managers, planners, and technical staff should understand the following rudiments:

  • The efforts to prevent terrorism may affect your approach to physical IT security.

  • There are numerous sources of information that may help you improve security or understand new threats.

  • Not all sources or information are equal, and the ISAC that serves your industry sector may not be as developed as the ISAC for other sectors.

There are several steps that organizations can take to help improve the physical security of IT assets. Recommended steps are included at the end of each chapter. The action steps listed in Table 9.2 are designed to help an organization determine what benefit it may be able to derive from information on threats, vulnerabilities, and trends from DHS or an ISAC.
