A

Advanced Encryption Standard (AES):
A symmetric key encryption method that supports up to 256-bit keys.
Audit policy:
A feature of the Windows operating system that allows a user to filter which system events are recorded in the system logs.
Authentication:
Verifying that the sender of a message is who he or she claims to be.
Authentication header:
An IPSec protocol that takes care of verifying the identify of a message sender.

Best effort protocol:
A data communications protocol that does not provide error correction.
Blind TCP spoofing:
An attack in which the system cracker intercepts the SYN/ACK message from a destination host during the establishment of a TCP connection. The cracker then sends its own SYN/ACK to the origination host and from then on continues to impersonate the destination.
Block substitution cypher:
A substitution cypher that applies a multiple character key to multiple characters of a message at one time.
Brute force:
Attacks on a computer system that involve repeatedly trying to access the computer through entry points, such as trying groups of dial-up numbers, user names, and passwords in the hopes that something will work.
Buffer:
A portion of main memory set aside to hold an input value.
Buffer overflow:
