The business case should be an enduring theme throughout the project. Reviewing it regularly is a way to keep the project on track. It also helps you to deal with proposed changes in the requirements. It provides a basis for balancing the business benefit of a change against the cost of making it, and the opportunity cost of whatever you may have to leave out to make way for it.

The lifecycle evaluation model introduced in Chapter 2 suggests that successful attainment of technology investment benefits requires on-going evaluation across the lifecycle of the investment. This chapter provides recommended evaluation approaches for the next steps in the IT project's lifecycle: project management (including the development and implementation phases in traditional lifecycle methodology) and post-implementation. Section 4.2 Development and project management , reviews several overall approaches to project management, then extract and examine the related measures against a backdrop of the project risk variables identified in Chapter 3.
