Part Overview

The first part of this book, Chapters 2 12, are concerned with the initial planning of the business, and the stage from actual start-up through to when the business starts to break even and to make profit for its owners and investors.

From the owners perspectives, the key objective here is for the business to survive and grow until it reaches that key point of break-even level before the working capital becomes so depleted that the business can no longer continue trading. Sadly, that is an all too common situation. The actual timescale may vary from several months to 1 or 2 years depending on the nature of the proposed business and the market in which it operates, so the business must be adequately capitalised to last out that period.
