TABLE OF CONTENTS The PMO is often the only department in the organization that collects project-related tactical data from all projects for the fiscal year and past fiscal years. These data are often in the form of project schedules, project status reports, project work papers, project meeting minutes, and other related project artifacts. In our travels among many businesses, we have witnessed many instances where sensitive project data are not maintained at the master copy level anywhere in the organization except for the hard drive or briefcase of the project team member. As project artifacts are created, remember that the work involved to create these artifacts was funded by the business. The business owns these artifacts and it is the due diligence of every person in the business that a master copy of any artifact (intellectual property) be stored in a secure location, hopefully in the PMO centralized enterprise project management (EPM) tool and related systems.
The PMO data store is typically a single repository database of project-oriented information regarding project progress and related artifacts such as work products and project deliverables. There are many PMO data store products in the marketplace today that can support the organizational PMO and project management community. These products are more well known as EPM tools.
