There are great differences between companies, not just in size, or complexity, but in the systems that they already use to provide a measure of control of their operations. It is easy to see, then, that to find a single, all-embracing solution for SOX compliance is difficult, if not impossible. In this book, we have seen that the actual requirement as stated in sections 302, 404, and 409 are quite general in nature and so leave it up to the company to decide what is necessary to satisfy the enforcement of the Act.
The COSO Framework as described has been widely accepted as the basis for setting up Internal Control Systems, and its methodology closely resembles Project Management scenarios. The basic methods applied to project management should work for SOX compliance in most cases.
That is why I have chosen to profile the "Processes-On-Demand" software as an example of compliance software available commercially. It is by no means the only applicable system available, and the people who have the job of deciding which system to use must do their own due diligence before embarking on the timeconsuming and expensive process of becoming SOX compliant.
