Thermodynamic Properties of Water and Refrigerants

Data of different properties of water and steam are available in standard tables known as steam tables. For engineers, steam tables are vital tools for designing and evaluating the performance of various types of equipment.
In steam tables, the properties of water and steam are arranged as functions of pressure and temperature. Separate tables are available for the properties of water in saturation state and in the liquid and vapor phases.
The reference for developing steam tables is taken as the triple point of water (0.01 oC), where ice (solid), water (liquid), and steam (gas) are at equilibrium state. At triple point, internal energy, enthalpy, and entropy are approximately zero.
There are two types of steam tables, which are commonly used to determine the properties of steam, saturated steam table, and superheated steam table.
You can use the saturated steam tables to know the saturation properties of steam, which is a function of saturation temperature (T sat). The properties of steam discussed in the table are saturation pressure (T sat), specific volume of saturated liquid (V f), and specific volume of saturated vapor (V g). The difference between V f and V g represents the increase in specific volume when the state of Nitrogen changes from liquid to saturated vapor and is denoted as V fg.
