XML for Data Architects: Designing for Reuse and Integration

Glossary

A

abstract cardinality
Similar to infinite cardinality, a form of cardinality (e.g., repeating elements) in which the degree or threshold as a maximum number of occurrences is unknown. The value specific for an XML schema maxOccurs attribute would in this case be "unbounded."

An architectural form or pattern of like named element containers that repeat in a given context. Implied by an abstract container form are element names (e.g., "tag" names) that are to some degree abstract. As an example, elements abstractly named as "" would be used in place of elements specifically named as "."

The application or adaptation of an observable and repeatable pattern to an XML structure model.
