Zubrowka Bison Vodka The High Is the Limit

Screwdriver, Cosmopolitan, Black Russian and Bloody Mary what do these cocktails all have in common? Why, vodka, of course! Indeed, vodka is the focus of this chapter, which takes a look at the history and production of this world-famous spirit. More than just looking at its history though, this chapter also intends to examine the Polish vodka industry, paying particular attention to efforts to privatise the industry, while assessing the potential of the up and coming Zubrowka Bison Brand Vodka.

History of Vodka

Vodka, as we all know it, is a clear and potent drink, often used as a base for numerous long drinks and cocktails, and is typically associated with the Russians (think Stolichnaya). However, one should beware of accrediting the Russians with the discovery of the drink in the presence of the Poles, especially since the latter claim that it was their discovery, and not their eastern neighbour's. Regardless of who discovered this world-famous drink, it is certain that there are at least four predominant players in the vodka industry: Russia, Finland, Sweden and Poland. However, as earlier mentioned, it is the latter that takes centre stage in this paper.

The term "vodka", derived from "Zhiznennia voda" in Russian or "aqua vitae" in Latin, meaning water of life in English, is very much a part of the Polish culture and lifestyle.
