Ubiquitous computing aims at pursuing naturalness, harmony and adaptation. We think that "semantic" is the key aspect in co-operations and communications of people, devices and smart devices. This paper presents a semantic context model for an adaptive middleware. We emphasize on the fusion of semantic context information in smart vehicle space for ubiquitous computing. Semantic web technology and web ontology language are used to build the ontology of the smart vehicle space. In addition, we propose an application scenario and a prototype system. The contribution is twofold. First, we present the architecture of semantic context model. Seconde, we have built the ontology of smart vehicle space, with which we make context fusion and inference for middleware adaptation.
In 21st century, a new computation model called "ubiquitous computing" 1 goes into our life. People, smart devices and environment are three elements of this novel computation model. In order to co-operate with each other naturally, harmoniously and adaptively, multifarious technologies are synthesized. Therefore, to realize the ideas of ubiquitous computing, it requires to integrate many research methods such as software architecture, middleware platform, languages design, distributed systems, artificial intelligence, vision recognition, user interfaces and biology authentication. Currently, a lot of related academic research efforts and commercial realities are made for ubiquitous computing. They focus on some active and smart spaces (e.g., Intelligent home, Easy meeting...
