About the Author

Ed Coover majored in history in college (B.A., M.A.) and then served as a Marine Corps communications officer in Vietnam. Interested in statistics and social measurement, he supported himself as a computer programmer while getting the third degree in history (Ph.D.). He has taught at the University of Minnesota (Saint Paul), Indiana University (Bloomington) and Warsaw University (Poland). Finding no future in the past, he went to work in the computer industry. Over 19 years this has included an inept computer time-sharing firm, a large and rapacious systems house, a network analysis boutique, and, most recently, a Federally Funded Research and Development...
