Lean is a culture that must be part of the organization. It is a continuous process, like running an ultra-marathon and not a single event, like the 100-yard dash.

STARTING LEAN
Section 1 provides a solid foundation for Lean implementation. Normally, it takes the shortest amount of time to implement, but is generally the most difficult stage to complete.
Most of the activities in Section 1 are performed by the leaders of the organization. It is difficult for top managers and CEOs to commit the time and effort required for planning. Many times smaller companies operate in a crisis mode, with management and employees putting out so many fires they don't have time for planning and communicating Lean initiatives to employees. Implementing Lean involves change, which is difficult for some employees to embrace.
WORKING WITH LEAN TOOLS
The activities in Section 2 start to involve more employees at a level that helps them understand the Lean process. Workers start to see that the direction the organization is taking will have a tremendous positive impact on the company. Everyone will start to contribute ideas to make it a success. These small successes will create a snowball effect...
