OVERVIEW

Writing is a solitary craft, but any successful creative project is a collaborative achievement, and this book is no exception. This project is the result of collaboration among over 100 friends, colleagues, and people whom, even as the completed manuscript goes to press, I've not (yet) met or spoken with. Through the power of technology, and the importance of the subject, security in the built environment, everyone from marketing coordinators to managing principals in offices across the country has generously dedicated his or her time and expertise.

I am indebted to all the contributing authors for their meticulous work and sharing their knowledge. Of the many who encouraged me from the beginning and were the bedrock support throughout the project, there is a special place reserved for the firm principals, public agency directors, colleagues and friends who recommended authors; the many contributing firms, agencies and organizations for their generous investment of staff time, resources, and commitment to the project; and to several national organizations that allowed adaptation and use of their materials. These collective contributions form the foundation of the book.
