Tidbits, and My Tales Memorable Happenings

Here is a collection of safety items, rules-of-thumb, technical information, happenings, and lessons learned that I use daily as tools of my trade. I enjoy working on shop problems and these are some of my tools. Chapter 21: Tidbits is a collection of useful information for working with titanium alloys. Chapter 22: is a collection of observations that were memorable enough for me to record. Many of these notes are of unexpected happenings that help me understand some of the events that I experience in the machine shop world.

My grandfather, Fred Rossman, a master carpenter, helped me build this toolbox in 1942, when I was seven. His words, "Measure twice and saw once," were not invented by him, but have stayed with me over the years. By the way, I asked him why he threw some of the nails away when we were building the box. He answered, "The heads were on the wrong end."

Overview

This chapter is intended to be a living document to be updated on a daily basis as I collect tidbits of information relating to the fabrication of titanium alloy parts.

It has taken me a lot of research and time to find the answers to questions about titanium alloy milling over the past fourteen years. Part of this expensive research effort is because most of us did not grow up with fathers or industries...
