Simplified TRIZ: New Problem Solving Applications for Engineers and Manufacturing Professionals

In Chapter 2, we introduced the patterns of evolution. The purpose of this chapter is to show how to use the patterns. In problem solving, knowing the patterns helps to go from the features of the ideal final result to concrete solutions. In situations where the contradictions are hard to see, understanding the patterns helps you see how the system is evolving. If we see how the system will evolve, we actually know the solution to the problem; in this way, the solution can be developed without contradiction analysis. The place of patterns in the model for problem solving is shown in Figure 9.1.
The five most useful patterns of evolution are the following:
Uneven evolution of the parts and the features of the system
Transition to the macrolevel or incorporation to the larger system of higher level
Transition to the microlevel or the segmentation of the system into smaller parts
Increasing the interactions between systems
Expansion and convolution of systems
First, each pattern will be explained, and then we'll show how to use them both separately and together.
The uneven evolution of the system causes problems, bottlenecks and contradictions all the...
