Statistics for Quality Control Chemistry Laboratory

CHAPTER 2

1.

Table 2.2 contains three datasets from GC assays of distilled spirits (whiskies). The data, which are presented in time order, represent single measurements of the 'total fusel alcohol' (TFA) content of vials of a whiskey used as a QC control material in the laboratory. One vial was inserted into each analytical run. The three datasets were collected at different time periods, over several years. Here TFA comprises propanol, isobutanol, isoamylacetate, 2-methyl-1-butanol and 3-methyl-1-butanol. This is one of a number of summary measures routinely monitored by the laboratory.
