VIDF

The Virtual Interface Developer Forum (VIDF) is a group of VI developers and users concerned with guiding the evolution of the VI Architecture. One VIDF project is a VI Architecture 1.1 specification. After it was ready for publication, copyright issues with the VI Architecture promoters put the document on hold. To resolve these issues, the document is being recast as "VIDF Extensions to VIPL-1.0, Revision A." The specification will describe only the extensions to VIPL 1.0 and will not include material from the original VI Architecture specification.

FC-VI

FC-VI is a standard for mapping the VI Architecture on to Fibre Channel. Approved by Technical Committee T11 of the National Committee for Information Technology Standards (NCITS), FC-VI specifies a transport for carrying VI messages. A number of Fibre Channel vendors support this standard (see Emulex and QLogic below).

VI-IP

A draft proposal describing extensions to the VI Architecture designed to facilitate operation over TCP/IP was submitted to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in November 2000. The authors of the proposal were from GigaNet, Troika Networks, Cisco Systems, and Network Appliance. The extensions take the form of enhancements to the VIPL API and a "VI Protocol" which supports VI functionality over TCP/IP. ^[1]
